KIU Commemorates World Hearing Day 2026 | Campus Eye Media
In a bid to promote hearing health awareness, KIU Teaching Hospital and Research (KIUTHR), Department of ENT Surgery, in collaboration with the Directorate of Research, Innovation, Consultancy and Extension (DRICE), hosted an event in commemoration of World Hearing Day on March 3, 2026, at the Hospital Conference Hall.
Themed *"From Communities to Classrooms: Hearing care for every child"*, it brought together hospital staff and Bassajjabalaba Secondary School students.
In his presentation, Dr. Oladeji Raheem Quadri, Consultant ENT Surgeon, highlighted strategies to boost hearing care:
- Embed ear and hearing care in school health programs
- Partner with District Health Offices for support
- Screen kids regularly in schools
- Run public awareness campaigns on hearing health
He noted that 90 million children (5-19 years) face hearing loss, with over 60% preventable through simple steps. “Early checks make a big difference in kids' development,” he said.
The commemoration demonstrates KIUTHR’s readiness to deepen access to healthcare and sensitize the public on Otolaryngology (ENT).
